Taxi transfers between Dhërmi and Himarë
This is the journey we make more than any other. Two villages on the same coast road, close enough that visitors assume it is simple, separated by enough headland and gradient that it rarely is.
Dhërmi and Himarë are the two best-known places on the northern Riviera, and a great many visitors want to see both. Some are staying in one and visiting the other for the day; some move accommodation halfway through a trip; some are catching a bus or a boat from Himarë and starting from Dhërmi.
On a map it looks like a short hop. In practice the road runs inland around the Vuno headland, drops towards the bay at Jal, climbs again, and approaches Himarë from above. It is a lovely drive and not a quick one.
Ways to make the journey
Private transfer
Door to door, at a time you choose, with room for luggage. The straightforward option, and the only one that works reliably for an evening return.
Coastal bus
Runs in season along the main road. Cheap and perfectly usable if your timing is flexible and you are travelling light — but it stops on the road, not at your accommodation.
Boat
In summer, boats run along parts of this coast. Scenic and weather-dependent; a day-trip option rather than a transfer.
Walking or cycling
The coastal path is a serious walk with real ascent, and the road is narrow with blind bends. Neither is a casual way to travel between the two.
The stops worth making on the way
If you are being driven rather than driving, the journey can absorb a stop or two without much trouble. Vuno, the stone village on the hillside above the road, is worth twenty minutes of wandering. The viewpoint over the bay at Jal is a natural pause.
Travellers heading to Himarë for the day often ask to stop at Jal on the way back, which works well as an arrangement: down to Himarë in the morning, an hour at Jal in the afternoon, home before dinner.
Mention any stops when you book rather than on the road, so the time is part of the journey.
If you are moving accommodation
Changing from Dhërmi to Himarë partway through a stay is one of the most common bookings we take. The thing that decides the vehicle is luggage, not passengers — two people with three large suitcases need more space than four people with cabin bags.
Tell us the number of suitcases when you enquire, and tell us the name of the property at both ends. Hillside addresses in both villages can involve steps that a vehicle cannot reach, and it is much better to know that in advance.
Evenings in Himarë
Himarë has more restaurants and more going on after dark than Dhërmi village, which makes an evening there a popular plan. It also makes the return journey the part worth thinking about.
Coastal buses do not run late. If you are going for dinner, arrange the return when you book the outbound — a fixed pickup time and point is far more reliable than looking for a ride at eleven at night in August.
If your plans change during the evening, message us as early as you can and we will move the pickup if a vehicle is free.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from Dhërmi to Himarë?
It depends on the season and traffic on the coast road, so we give you a realistic figure for your date when you book rather than publishing one here.
Is there a bus between Dhërmi and Himarë?
Coastal services run in summer along the main road. They are infrequent and seasonal, and they stop above the villages rather than at accommodation.
Can you collect us from Himarë after dinner?
Yes, if it is arranged in advance. Book the return at the same time as the outbound journey and agree a pickup point with the driver.
Can we stop at Vuno or Jal on the way?
Yes. Mention it when you book so the time is built into the journey.
